I have a great set of plugins for you today!

To start off I have a couple plugins that I have yet to use but thought you might want to know they exist. Keep in mind the ratings are based off the descriptions on their site and using their demo if available.

What they say:

The free SmartFrame plugin gives WordPress users access to the core technology of our product: instead of publishing regular image files directly on your website, SmartFrame automatically encrypts your images and then renders their decrypted versions on your website using HTML canvas – this way, your images are:

– Protected from being copied or downloaded
– Made responsive – the rendered image is only as large as the end-user’s display requires, so you don’t need to resize or compress your images anymore
– Made interactive with sophisticated zoom and elements such as caption or sharing buttons

WordPress News and Info

This is a new segment I am adding to the show since I have not been able to do my Saturday show.

Thought on WP 5.2 and the new Site Health:
I do believe they had it better functioning before adding it to core. It was easier to read and you could find what you wanted right away.

The new PHP recover mode ” user-facing error message is displayed and an email is sent to the administrator’s email address.”

The next plugin I have for you is:

Import Users from CSV

https://wordpress.org/plugins/import-users-from-csv/

Version:1.3
Requires:3.1 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.2
Released:23 May 2011

Last Updated:11 April 2024

The Lowdown:
Importing and exporting users can be a needed function when working on a membership website. If you're updating one in which not all members are listed, you can go though one by one and add them which is a large chunk of time, or use an importer tool to get it done.

This one is pretty basic in that it only imports users into your site you cannot export them out. You have to use the sample CSV file in the plugin folder to build out your member list. It seems to work ok, but it could use an exporter so that if you have members you can export and cross reference and clean up the list.

Next up I have:

Remove Orphan Shortcodes

https://wordpress.org/plugins/remove-orphan-shortcodes/

Version:1.2
Requires:3.0 or higher
Compatible up to:6.3.4
Released:07 May 2013
Downloads:14444
Last Updated:11 September 2023
Ratings:
3.8
(3.8 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:
Switching themes or plugins that heavily use shortcodes can be a challenge. When you do this you need to go though the site and remove all the old shortcodes. Or, you could simply use a plugin like this one to hide all that junk until you can get it removed.

Install and activate this plugin. What it does is it hides all unused short codes from the display.

ClassicPress Options

Since the release of Gutenberg, and its fallout, ClassicPress has garnered a lot of attention. This is a fork of WordPress and is focused on Business Websites and is looking pretty good. It does seem in the past few months ClassicPress is coming into its own a bit. With some plugins now being created specifically for ClassicPress, I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of CP specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of CP specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I'll have to expand this segment then. Who knows it could take over the whole show.

This weeks ClassicPress plugin is:

This week I do not have a plugin but I want to talk about some experimental research that is happening with ClassicPress. All items discussed can be found here https://github.com/ClassicPress-Research

First up there are a couple E-commerce plugins in the works ClassicPress. Storefront, a fork of Storefront, and Classic Commerce, a fork of WooCommerce. Both of these look promising and will help elevate ClassicPress I believe. Since e-commerce is a vital part of many websites now, this helps ClassicPress stand out as a viable alternative to WP.

There are discussion about improving the media library if this happens it could be a major factor for switching.

And more this is a community that is growing and many talented people are migrating over to it as it looks to be treating people better.

Side notes:

The Classic press editor for WordPress is being used over 4 million times and will lose support in 2022, only 3 years away. If you are one of them you might want to start a plan for moving to ClassicPress CMS. More about it at https://www.classicpress.net/

To find a listing of ClassicPress specific plugins check out this link https://forums.classicpress.net/t/plugins-built-specifically-for-classicpress/1011?u=codepotent there is currently 37 plugins here and growing I look forward to the day they have their own repository. I can still recall WP when is had a small repository.

Closing out this Episode the Plugins I covered were:

John’s Plugins: WordPress Image Security & Compression Plugin – SmartFrame – 3, Import Users from CSV – 3, Remove Orphan Shortcodes – 5
