ClassicPress Options

ClassicPress is a fast growing fork of WordPress that is starting to come into its own. ClassicPress is focused on Business Websites, runs fast and is looking pretty good. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I'll have to expand this segment then. Who knows, it could take over the whole show.

This week for ClassicPress I have:

Plugins Compatible with ClassicPress

Disable Admin Notices individually

Requires:5.2 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.4
Released:18 January 2018
Last Updated:03 April 2024
(4.8 star out of 5)

What Angel says:

This plug in allows you to disable annoying notices on the Dashboard panel. You can turn off notices forever individually for themes, plugins and WordPress itself. The Hide admin notices plugin adds “Hide notification forever” link for each admin notice. This method will help you to disable only annoying notices from plugins and themes, but important error notifications will continue to work.

The Free version works well, and the payed version ads a few more option to disable ad redirects, and other notifications in other areas of WordPress.
I give this one 4 Dragon rating

Johns Take:

It looks to be a great plugin but has its own bit of irony built right in. Here is a quote from a review on the plugin from Jose who gave it a 4 star “Really good. It just didn't get the 5th star because the warning to purchase the Pro version of the plugin itself keeps popping up.”

Since the plugin has a feature to stop this exact behaviour I found this funny..

Amber's Plugin

Requires:5.2 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.4
Released:07 April 2017
Last Updated:24 June 2024
(5 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

This plugin is for preventing disposable emails from being used when people sign up or comment on your website. Essentially, this is supposed to stop spammers.

Works right out of the box, and is totally free!
You plug it in and let it go! Seems to work as it says it does. Neat little plugin! nice and easy, no settings to go to though.

Now, if you have upgraded your WordPress to the latest version, it hasn't been tested with the newest version yet, so beware, it may not fully work. It doesn't break the site on this version though, so all is well in that aspect.
I am not totally sure how well it works, it seemed to be in working order, but this is one of those plugins where you would need to have it running for a while before you really know how well it is working.

What they say:

The best of the best Filter gallery plugin with multiple option for WordPress website.

Create a gallery with multiple categorized images, assign filters to images and publish the gallery using shortcode.

The plugins has 200+ 5 star rating on WordPress.

The plugin offer more extra features and templates design.

Free version also available on WordPress:

A WP Life

Johns take:

This looks to be a pretty good image gallery plugin that will allow you to display images in several ways. A couple things I noticed, which are probably fixable but did not dig that deep, is that many times the images are not always the same size which for some is important others not so much. All in all it seems pretty smooth and as I got a look at the premium version I'll give this one a ….

Secret Image Slide and Tune

Requires:4.6 or higher
Compatible up to:5.8.9
Released:16 December 2018
Last Updated:08 September 2021
(5 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

Want to give people a random treat? How about a picture of a cat dancing to The Kitty Cat Dance?

Totally awesome plugin; you plug it in and set up the picture and the music you want, and set the 10 digit code you want. Totally works, even with the latest version of WP.

Fix this up on your site by setting an image to slide across your browser to your desired tune by entering the correct secret code on your keyboard.

You can either leave this for people to try and find on their own, or you can tell people about it.

Popup Trigger URL for Elementor Pro

Requires:4.6 or higher
Compatible up to:5.4.15
Released:28 January 2019
Last Updated:16 June 2020
(4.6 star out of 5)

What Angel says:

Currently you can trigger Elementor Pro’s popups by click only on buttons or links inside Elementor.
This plugin will help you to trigger your Elementor Pro’s popup from anywhere even outside the Elementor’s content.

When looking at the Pop up window you have the shortcode on the far right, this adds an URL tab where you copy the Pop-ups URL and add it to any LINK element be it text or a button etc.. Using the URL is much easier than Elementors method of triggering Pop ups. This plug in is a hug time saver.

Johns Take;

If you are using Elementor pro and looking for an intersting tool to improve your popups this may be a plugin for your to add to your site. It will allow you to link that popup to anything you want in your site bypassing the limitations in Elementor.

Cornify for WordPress

Requires:2.9 or higher
Compatible up to:5.3.17
Released:03 April 2011
Last Updated:14 December 2019
(5 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

Need something to prank someone with? How about sparkly unicorns popping up on the screen? This will do the trick if a person is inactive for too long on your site.

You just plug this in, and it activates it.

A not great thing about this, is that it only takes about 30 seconds of inactivity on the site before the shiny sparkly unicorns start popping up.

They just start popping up, and so do rainbows! Shiny, sparkly unicorns and rainbows. It's pretty fun to watch. And mildly mesmerizing too.

Works with the latest version of WordPress, and totally worth plugging in for for a laugh.

This was initially invented for an April fools joke.

I don't like that it only takes about 30 seconds of inactivity though, and there are no settings to make the time longer.

Rating: 4 Dragons

I wanted to make mention of WP Pranks I was really excited to see this one work, it seems like it would be a fantastic prank plugin!

Unfortunately though, it didn't work on either of the sites I checked out. One was updated to the most recent version of WP, and the other had the last version.

It doesn't have any settings, but it seems to be fairly up to date. I wanted to say that if there are any developers out there who have a sense of humour and are willing to put the work into making a fantastic prank plugin, please do, and then send me the result! I'm totally into pranks! Let me know also if there are any awesome prank plugins out there, 'cause it would be fun to pull some pranks on April fools.
Never on clients of course, but totally on friends and family.
