How to Promote a Brand New Blog

Author: Gen Wright
So you start a new blog, and you are hoping the visitors come just because you have great content. And you wait and wait for a couple of weeks only to be disappointed.

The truth is, traffic won't just come just because you have killer content. You have to work hard to drive the traffic. In other words, you need to do some promotion and advertising to promote your blog. Here are some traffic generation methods that you can use.

 Method 1: PPC advertising.

PPC stands for Pay Per Click advertising. You can display your ad across thousands of sites in a matter of hours. The best part about PPC is that you don't pay a single cent unless someone clicks on your ad. So that helps to minimize risk.

Write just 3 high quality blog posts. High quality here means your blog post should look like a mini report. Word count should be at least 800 words or more. Great content always attract more readers, and that's your primary goal.

Next, use PPC to drive traffic to your blog. Make sure that you only target interested readers. For instance, if your blog post is about email marketing, then you should advertise on sites or blogs that are related to business, marketing and email.

 Method 2: Build a list.

Building a list for a blogger means that you are building a readership base. These readers like your content, and give you permission to send them more of your stuff when you update your blog. Give them something to subscribe to. For instance, they can subscribe to your RSS Feed (use feedburner to burn your feed), or allow them to subscribe to your autoresponder.

Method 3: Link exchange with other bloggers.

Network with bloggers that are in the same market as yourself. Offer to give some free content to these bloggers in exchange for a link. You should also promise to post a link back to your partner's blog. The idea is to promote each other's blog.

 Method 4: Article marketing.

This is my favorite method because it's just to easy to execute. Write some quality articles and submit them to well established article directories. You are allowed to include up to 2 links in the author resource box. These links can point back to your blog, and will bring a steady stream of traffic.

A side benefit of article marketing is that your links are crawled by the search engines. Also, each link is counted as a vote for your site. The more votes you get, the higher your search rankings. That means you will get more organic traffic just by doing article marketing alone!

 Method 5: Social bookmarking.

Whenever you post a new blog entry, try to post the link to as many social bookmarking sites as possible. Social sites are great places for sharing content. You will attract like minded individuals who may end up subscribing to your blog.

Be active in your blog promotion and keep building links. Success will then be inevitable for your blog.About the Author:
