John's Intro:

Make sure to have a look at the new system for submitting art work for the show You can also view the art work from the past. Currently you can see all the submissions we have here and you can even vote on the art work.

We are now at 56 weeks of the Rona lock-downs, and yet the world still has not found its collective brain and insanity still abounds. There are small signs of hope here and there though so, lets keep spreading the word and hopefully bring people back to the light. Happy ‘Give the Government Your Money' day for my US listeners.

With great appreciation for the No Agenda Show for their inspiration of ideas and the occasional stolen sound clip.

This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.

Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…

Ambers' Rant:

This is #15 of 52 episodes for 2021. Its Episode 507, and the song ‘Another One Bites the Dust!' is running through my head with the shutting down of Grace Life and other places of the same ilk…

If things are seeming a wee bit dire at the moment with the new lock downs and the fresh shut downs of the churches and other similar places, just remember – there's always a silver lining somewhere. In this case, you DO get to spend more time with your family, and you have more of an opportunity to take care of your own mental health!

A great thing you can do for yourself every day is retreat from the world to under a blanket, curl up on the couch, listen to some music with no news hours, or to an audio book! Grab yourself a drink, and tell your kids to bugger off for an hour! Never be be afraid to tell your kids to bugger off for an hour – it's totally allowed to demand they not bother you unless they are broken, dying, or bleeding for the entirety of the hour! Maybe help them to create their own zone out spaces, than walk away quietly while they are ‘arranging' it – you will more than likely get about an hour all to yourself this way. Just don't crumple any chip or cookie bags….

Remember, remove all social media and main stream news for your own mental health! Do this for an hour a day.

Rinse and repeat as often as needed.

We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.

ClassicPress Options

ClassicPress is a fast growing fork of WordPress that is starting to come into its own. ClassicPress is focused on Business Websites, runs fast and is looking pretty good. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I'll have to expand this segment then. Who knows, it could take over the whole show.

This week for ClassicPress I have:

John's Plugin

Contest Gallery – Photo Contest Plugin for WordPress – contest gallery pro

Requires:5.6 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.4
Released:13 August 2015
Last Updated:15 June 2024
(4.4 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

Well this is the long promised review of the pro version of this plugin.

After I had reviewed it back in episode 499 and using it for a while, I realized that it was worth while to upgrade to the pro version and I am glad I did. It definitely expands what the plugin can do and allows for better display of the art work including the artists name.

The pro version is well worth the extra coinage, check it out.

Amber's Plugin

Disable FLoC

Requires:4.9 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.4
Released:15 April 2021
Last Updated:05 April 2024
(5 star out of 5)

This is an easy and free to use privacy addition.

By installing and activating it, it automatically adds a HTTP header to your WordPress website that disables Google’s “Federated Learning of Cohorts” tracking.

You will find the Header added:
Permissions-Policy: interest-cohort=()

If an existing ‘interest-cohort’ value is found, the plugin will not change that value or add an additional one.

This plugin's page also sets down 5 links that tell you about what FLoC is, so if you are interested, go and check out the page of this plugin!

Better Usage Statistics for Elementor

Requires:4.9.8 or higher
Compatible up to:6.0.8
Released:02 April 2021
Last Updated:01 June 2022
(0 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

If you use Elementor, you know the feeling of adding lots of addons and then, when you complete the job, wondering if you have used them all and what can you remove. It gives you a complete report on where and how you have used the Elementor elements at.

I had hoped for one thing that is missing and that is a report on what is not used but it can still help you out.

Amber's plugin

Floating Chat Widget: Contact Icons, Messages, Telegram, Email, SMS, Call Button – Chaty

Requires:3.1 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.4
Released:07 August 2018
Last Updated:03 June 2024
(5 star out of 5)

This is an interesting plugin for a pop up chat window.

It doesn't just give you the option of chatting with customers, it also gives the customer the option of chatting through WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or Telegram, and others.

This offers quite a few options as a free version, though there is a pro version.

When you activate it, it brings you to an interesting settings page. You can choose what you will use for your site, what phone number, and then it creates a widget for you to use in your site building.

It does try and get you to sign up with them, but it allows you to simply skip that step, which I appreciate.

Lots of options, very useful if a pop up chat is something that you need for your site.

John's plugin

Internal Linking of Related Contents

Requires:3.5.0 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.4
Released:09 March 2021
Last Updated:21 May 2024
(4 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

Internal linking is important for your SEO and linking related articles can sometime be problematic. This plugin makes that task easier to accomplish.

This is a simple plugin that does linking automatically, creating the links with a button. You get control over how the link and button look by adjusting the colours but not control over where it appears aside from choosing from 3 basic themes. And the link only appears at the top of the post. And it appears the premium, which is 39 Eros, add a bit more control to it.

Plugin Notes Label

Requires:4.1 or higher
Compatible up to:5.9.9
Released:15 April 2021
Last Updated:02 April 2024

This plugin is awesome! I don't know about everyone else out there, but I can't always remember exactly which plugin does what. Then there are the plugins that have been modified, not to mention the need to know which plugin is used for what on the new sites you encounter, or which plugins have been modified by others.

Once you install and activate this, a little space for notes pops up under every single plugin, and you can start making notes right away!

This is a newer plugin, and currently, it's free. I can see these guys starting in on the charging soon though, as I can see this being very helpful and becoming VERY useful!

I would recommend you get in on this while its still free.
Go check this out for sure!
