Ambers' Rant:

This is #18 of 52 episodes for 2021. Its Episode 510! And if you add these three numbers up in the way of numerology, you get 4! Cool right? I bring this up because 4 is SUCH an interesting number! In many cultures, it's a number of stability and solidity, of justice and completion – and yet in many other cultures, 4 has the meaning of death, suffering, and bad luck. 4 is my favorite number, I try to use it as much as possible. Well, I have two favorite numbers – 4 and 13. Although 13 = 4, so really it's the same number. Four is such an enigma of a number, carrying these completely opposite meanings within it – rather similar to humans really.

I know there are quite a few other number enigmas in the number world, but I have always found 4 to be especially fascinating. I am also intrigued by numerology's ability to be rather accurate – though you need to be very particular in completing a numerology chart for that outcome. And that can take hours – which could be a great way to spend your hour a day for a while! Spending an hour a day learning numerology could make you a rather apt numerologist at the end of a month! Great thing to get the kids involved with too. Numerology is like finding hidden meanings everywhere – words, names, dates, addresses, etc. Also, it's a sneaky way to get the kids to practice math. It's such a different way of doing math from the norm, I'll bet they don't even realize how fast they are getting at adding while searching for all those hidden meanings.

Be sure to turn off the social media though, otherwise you won't be able to add up anything!

Rinse and repeat as often as needed.

ClassicPress Options

ClassicPress is a fast growing fork of WordPress that is starting to come into its own. ClassicPress is focused on Business Websites, runs fast and is looking pretty good. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I'll have to expand this segment then. Who knows, it could take over the whole show.

This week for ClassicPress I have:

The Lowdown:

There are times when you just need to start all over again with a WordPress site and you do not want to go through the hassle of deleting everything and re-uploading and restarting.

A plugin like this holds some promise to make that task easier. Install it and then proceed to reset. It does wipe your database clean so if in doubt make a backup.

The Lowdown:

Definitely check this one out. Apparently, THIS is the option to remove FLoC – but I think that they are only singling this one out because this is the one that is made by WP themselves. Either way, let's see how this one works compared to the other one. 😀

John's plugin

John & Amber,

Slowly getting back into listening to the podcast after a while on hiatus and I was just listening to episode 506 where you mentioned the ‘Full Screen Editor' issue that WordPress 5.4 brought in. At that time (April 2021) I found a blog post that told me how to disable the ‘Full Screen Editor' https://jeanbaptisteaudras.com/en/2020/03/disable-block-editor-default-fullscreen-mode-in-wordpress-5-4/

Rather than putting it in my functions.php I wrote a quick and dirty plugin to do the same thing.
It has around 20 active installs and no ratings (so I'm not sure anyone actually likes it), but does what it says … although I haven't tested it with 5.7 or 5.7.1 as I've been busy (this weekend if my real paying job permits).

Have a look … https://wordpress.org/plugins/we-disable-fs/

Love the show … keep on doing what you guys do best.

If you are annoyed as much as I am by the automation of the full screen mode then you will love this simple plugin that put that to a stop. Simply install activate and your golden.

Check it out!

The Lowdown:

Fresh off the press plugin to hide the Admin Bar from all the users, except the Admin themselves!!
Very nice plugin, simple and effective.

Once you activate it, go into the settings, and choose which user roles to hide the admin bar for. You can also just choose ‘hide for all user rolls' right at the top if you don't want to toggle each user roll individually – though having the option to show admin bar for certain types of contributors is useful.

Very nice plugin, if you think you could use this, try it out!

The Lowdown:

Guess we're not FLoCing done yet. There have been so many plugins to stop the FLoC that I guess we needed to cover a couple more. This one I just like the name because you can have so much fun with it such as “If you flic the FLoC does it get excited and still want to share your secrets” or you can “Flic the FLoC out of here” you can even “Flick the FLoC to turn it on and off”

Check it out Flic your own FLoC

The Lowdown:

This is a really cool plugin. It's designed to custom and high-quality code for your WP site, using the latest WP coding standards and API's. VERY useful!

And this too is brand new, and totally free!!

Now, I only really understand just enough to have a basic understanding of what this plugin is doing, and how it works. Though filling out these forms is rather straightforward, so long as you have at least a basic understanding of coding. You will need to have at least a basic understanding in order to use this plugin – or be willing to research what each thing is for and how to use it while filling it out.

Once you have filled it out, it gives you the code to copy, and you can use it where needed!
