It's Episode 495 – We have plugins for Hide & Seek, Email Automation, Stopping the Brutality, Mobile Content, Image Control, Live Chat …, and ClassicPress Options. It's all coming up on WordPress Plugins A-Z!

Brosix Live Chat, WordPress Brute Force Protection – Stop Brute Force Attacks, Thumblink, Specific Content for Mobile, Mail Mage, Show/Hide Content at Set Time and ClassicPress options on Episode 495.

John's Intro:

The count down to Episode 500 is here only 4 more episodes to go. Just a reminder we are now in the 44th week of 2 weeks to flatten the curve from the Rona. The greatest Scam perpetrated on the entire world at once. We are now in the new Biden Era, what shall it bring. Seems like it means violence in Seattle and Portland but nothing on the M5M about that..

With great appreciation for the No Agenda Show for their inspiration of ideas and the occasional stolen sound clip.

This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.

Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…

Ambers Rant:

This is #3 of 52 episodes for 2021. Its Episode 495, and things outside are getting all revved up and ready to go! The Conspiracy Theorists such as myself are practically drowning in all the theories out there, and the meatheads who think they are in charge are creating an absolutely exquisite knot from all the strings they are trying to pull at once. Eventually, those strings will just need to be cut free, and it will be interesting to see how the dolls fall – though in the mean time, we get an excellent first row seat to the most amusing carnival show I have ever had the opportunity to witness!

We are lucky indeed to live in the here and now, it's the best show ever! Every once in a while though, I recommend that you go into a little place of your own where you can TUNE OUT for a while! It can be anywhere – a blanket thrown over your couch to build a fort, in your bed with your door closed and a ‘Do Not Disturb' sign or a sock on your door, or even your car! Get into a space all your own, throw on some music and grab a book, or even throw on an audio book and grab a drink! Kick back, and breathe. Try to get there at least once a week, more if you can.

If you have kids, let them know that they should only bother you if they are broken, dying, or bleeding for 1 WHOLE hour. Make your area comfy for you, and try to remove all internet AND radio with news hours while zoning out. Try to let go of everything outside of your control, and work on pestering those you know and care about to get their own Zone Out Space's started.

Rinse and repeat as often as needed.

We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.

ClassicPress Options

ClassicPress is a fast growing fork of WordPress that is starting to come into its own. ClassicPress is focused on Business Websites, runs fast and is looking pretty good. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I'll have to expand this segment then. Who knows, it could take over the whole show.

This week for ClassicPress I have:

Description

This is a really cool plugin, and although it is new to the game, I can see it going places. Once you install and activate it, you wind up having the option added to your main pages/posts admin page of ‘create mobile version'. And from there, it's no different from a regular setting up of any page/post.

There are no redirects required, and no excess meta data as it is all synced automatically.
This works with any theme, and does not require a different a different URL.

Once you have set up the mobile version of whichever page/post, it will only show up on mobiles.
Be sure to have a look through this if you are into coding, as it does offer up a glimpse of how this does what it does through the coding.

I definitely recommend people trying this out, and I would love to hear back about what you think about it! After all, it doesn't cost anything to try this one out, it's a freebie!

The lowdown:

I thought you may be interested in a new plugin that provides ‘trusted devices’ functionality in the same way as Google, Facebook etc.

When a genuine user makes a successful login to their account using their mobile phone, tablet, or computer GuardGiant starts treating their device as Trusted. The user can then receive notifications when someone logs in from a new unrecognized device. This is a much better way to prevent brute force attacks than a ‘limit logins’ type system.

The site is at https://www.guardgiant.com or https://wordpress.org/plugins/guardgiant/

Thank you,

Steve.

Description

This awesomely named plugin, besides being new and fresh off the press, is about setting up automations to help out with your site. Things like:

  • recovering abandoned Woocommerce carts
  • sending out reminder Woocommerce emails
  • follow up Woocommerce emails

I think this could be very handy for running an online shop; I like that they are mixing together the retrieval of the abandoned cart with the automation of the emails to be sent out. The settings are easy to understand, and each item you create to happen is created by a trigger event of your choosing. Well, of your choosing from a drop down list that is.
I couldn't fully test this out as I don't have a Woocommerce, I was only able to check out how it works, so I've dropped it a point down in case the automation isn't all it seems cut out to be.

I definitely recommend you go and check this out if you have a shop and could use a little help with sending things out and retrieving your customers abandoned carts – and please, let me know what you think about it!

The Lowdown:

WP Plugin Page: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumblink/
Website: https://thumblink.com

Thumblink automatically creates thumbnails for all of your blog posts to make your links look better. A link to your WordPress site on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn is often the first interaction you have with a visitor.

Every link’s thumbnail is 3x larger than its text preview – if it looks ugly or unmaintained, your page loses a potential visitor. Thumblink automatically generates these thumbnails by taking a screenshot of each page.

Show/Hide Content at Set Time

Description

This one has been around for a while, and although it's been a year since it's last update, they are resolving issues regularly over on GitHub.

If you have a little bit of know-how with the shortcode, or even if you don't have any, this is a very easy to use plugin.
Once activated, there are not settings, just wrap any content you want in the shortcode they provide you with, and it sets up that content to vanish and/or appear after a certain time and date.

I personally needed to save all the shortcodes they offer up in the description because I am still learning, but I tried it, and it works beautifully!

I think the only drawback on this is that there is not a page, that I was able to see, where you can just copy and paste the shortcodes you need into your content for us newbies. Though like I said, you can print, or copy and save the codes for later use off of the description.

If you have any limited time offers, or any announcements you need an end date for and don't want to bother with having to remember to go in there and remove or add said announcements, than this plugin will work great for you! Also, still a freebie!

When you are hooked up to the internet at home, there is the WiFi and the landline. If I am understanding correctly, by using the landline on your computer, you are sort of on a different wave from those using the WiFi. Can you explain that a bit better for me?

I've heard about the issues with Zoom and other vid chats like them – can I ask you to explain more plainly for me what's going on and why it's a bad idea to use them?

Can you explain to me why having hard coded things, like your header and footer, on your site is not a good idea in this day and age?

What does it mean when a plugin does not have a valid header?
