Johns Rant:

This is #39 of 52 51 episodes for 2020. Its Episode 480 and the wilderness is calling out to the true and brave. We are now 40 weeks into 2020 and 29 weeks of the Rona, and the narrative is shot. The numbers are starting to show it is not as bad as the M5M has touted for the last few months.

Yes, masks are still the rage, so keep yours handy you never know when you might need it to wipe your nose or that extra bit of TP.

I seem to have kicked my FaceCrack habit and have been feeling so much better these past few weeks. I highly recommend if you have a FaceCrack habit that you work to break it also. It seems I do not really miss out on anything after all and the news still arrives to my ears.

You may find yourself with a fair amount of free time and what you want to do is find an Oasis like the one at The Rogues Tavern someplace where you can check out from the world and unplug.

What you can do to help your soul:

Minimize or eliminate your M5M exposure,
Stop using FaceCrack
Work on your own little part of the world to make it a better place to be.
Inspire others around you to do the same.
Don't worry about things you cannot control.
Stop accepting and doing things that are not be your best interest.
Work in your best interest while at the same time respecting and helping others, the rewards will follow.

We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.

Let's get to the fun we have today.

ClassicPress Options

ClassicPress is a fast growing fork of WordPress that is starting to come into its own. ClassicPress is focused on Business Websites, runs fast and is looking pretty good. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I'll have to expand this segment then. Who knows, it could take over the whole show.

This week for ClassicPress I have:

The Lowdown:

This is another plugin from one of my projects that the client had installed so I though I would check it out.

It is allot like the hello bar from days gone past that I reviewed few years back. It is a simple version of an announcement bar at the top or bottom of your page. You can adjust it for colours, use shorcodes, delay the appearance of the bar, auto close it and a few more features.

All in all pretty good

The Lowdown:

I found this plugin while I was searching for a Divi ‘Featured Image' option for one of our clients. It didn't quite give me what I was looking for, but it does have some amazing options in it!
Description

Now, this does have a pro option, but in the free version it offers quite a few useful things; such as an Interactive Flip Box, Facebook feed, Price List, Icon List, and 16 other items. It works fairly well, though it didn't have an auto upload featured item like I had hoped. It does have the ability to put multiple items in manually in the price list all in one area.
If you go pro, it offers 40+ more options; I found this plugin to work very well, all I had to do was plug it in and off I went.

The lowdown:

This is a plugin that is currently in use on one of my clients sites. It is a good solution to offering up a ‘related posts' at the bottom of your posts if you're using a theme that does not offer this. This plugin is pretty nice in it functions and has a decent amount of options in its free form for most needs.

This plugin does a nice clean job

The Lowdown:

For everyone using Woo Commerce. This is a nifty plugin!
Description

Total Freebie, and totally awesome Halloween style!

With this, you can create a coupon for Halloween.

What you do, is you create pop up's, however many you like – 1 or more – , and once your customer has found them all, they get the coupon.

You get to choose what the pop up's are – tombstones, skulls, pumpkins – there are 51 different shapes to choose from, and you can choose multiple shapes by using the CTRL button.

Also, every time a person finds one of the pop ups, you can set it so that on a mobile or tablet the thing vibrates on them.
Really quite exciting!

It's very easy to get going too. Just plug it in and go to settings – though it is just called Halloween in your side bar, so if you have a few Halloween things going, might be a little confusing at first.

Definitely worth checking out if you like Halloween, go check it out!

What he says:

Generate temporary and secure download links for your files on the fly.

1. Upload File into secure folder.
2.Set expriy time limit.
3. Use shortcode to generate DL link on the fly.

What I think:

This looks to be a useful plugin that will allow you to send out secure links for downloads. They do note it only works in a LAMP environment with Apache webserver so probably not going to work in Engenix.

The Lowdown:

Anyone else out there getting irritated by this new fad of people using emoticons as a language for comments and what not?
Well, lucky for those of us who do find ourselves in this boat, the Geek Goddess has come to the rescue!
Description

Honestly, I love her handle. Or his I suppose, never really know who's on the other side of the screen.

So this plugin is another total freebie, and it's simple to use. just plug it in and let it rip.

No settings to do for this, but there's really not any need since it has one job only.

Works really well too.

If you are sick of this new emoticon language people are trying to make popular, you can trip them up with this nifty freebie plugin.
