Today we are reviewing our usual allotment of six great plugins.

John

And first up I have This plugin this plugin which comes from my own research and helps solve the following issues

Search & Replace

https://wordpress.org/plugins/search-and-replace/

Version:3.2.3
Requires:4.0 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5.5
Released:14 May 2007
Downloads:3048854
Last Updated:26 August 2024
Ratings:
4.3
(4.3 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:
When doing something such as SSL conversions you will need to search though the database and find where to change URL. This one does a great job of making those changes. But to insure you don't break your site one thing it does is downloads your database with changes and then it allows you to reupload it back.

With this plugin you can easily make a backup of your database, do a complete search and replace, do domain replacements, do a database prefix change and import a sql file.

Rating 5 Dragons.

Floating Video Plugin

https://wordpress.org/plugins/floating-video/

Version:1.3.1
Requires:4.7 or higher
Compatible up to:4.8.25
Released:15 September 2017
Downloads:2333
Last Updated:06 November 2017

This plugin allows you to embed an mp4 file or embedded YouTube video into your page. As the site visitor scrolls down the page to read the rest of your post, the video will automatically move and stick to one of the corners of the window so they can watch the video and read the page at the same time. This creates an effect like the one that can be seen on the videos of CNN, Facebook and the new style and design version of YouTube. The plugin is shortcode based and a bit limited in placement functionality. It lets you pick one of the corners with a margin based on percentage. The issue I had is that it didn't let me move it up from the bottom in a bottom-right play scenario. They can't all be 100% perfect and that's the only drawback I found.

The Lowdown:
By now everyone in the WordPress world has heard about the scamming by the new owner of Display widgets a popular plugin that I have been using for years and had to replace on several websites last week. This forced a look around for a dependable plugin that offered the same or similar functionality. After checking a few plugin I settled on this one.

It not only provided the same functionality as Display Widgets as well as adding a few more options into the mix. Not only can you hide/show a widget on a page or post but also by taxonomies also by device and more. If you upgrade to the premium version you can add additional functionality and it starts at $29.
